What Are Model Polaroids? A Complete Guide to Polaroid Days at Shushanik Photography

Model Polaroids Belgium: Your First Step Into the Modeling Industry

Model Polaroids Belgium are the first step into the modeling industry. At Shushanik Photography in Antwerp, Polaroid Days were created to help aspiring and signed models receive professional, agency-ready digitals at an accessible price point. Whether you are applying to agencies, getting scouted, or updating your existing digitals, Polaroid Days offer a professional and affordable starting point.

Since there was always a growing request for polaroids rather than full portfolio shoots, I wanted to find a way to help aspiring models with a lower investment while still providing professional guidance and helping multiple models in one day.

What Are Model Polaroids Belgium Agencies Ask For?

Despite the name, model polaroids have nothing to do with the instant cameras many people know today.

Before digital cameras existed, agencies photographed models using actual Polaroid cameras during castings and agency visits. These images were simple, natural, and showed the model exactly as they looked in real life.

As the industry moved into the digital era, the process remained the same while the technology changed. Today these images are often called polaroids, digitals, or model digitals, even though they are taken with professional digital cameras.

The goal remains exactly the same:

To show the model in the most natural and honest way possible.

Why Are Model Polaroids Belgium Important?

Model polaroids are usually the very first thing agencies ask for when considering a new face.

Agencies and scouts use these images to evaluate your natural features, proportions, and overall potential before looking at styled portfolio images.

These images help agencies answer important questions:

  • How does the model look naturally?
  • What are the model’s proportions?
  • How does the model photograph without styling or retouching?
  • Does the model have the versatility clients are looking for?

For many agencies, polaroids are the first thing they request before moving forward with applications or castings.

What Should You Wear For Polaroids?

The styling is intentionally simple.

For female models:

  • White or black fitted top or T-shirt
  • Blue or black jeans
  • Heels
  • Natural hair
  • No makeup or very minimal makeup

For male models:

  • White or black fitted T-shirt
  • Blue or black jeans
  • Clean sneakers or simple shoes
  • Natural grooming

The focus should always remain on the model and not on the styling.

Which Photos Are Included During Polaroid Days?

During Polaroid Days you receive five essential images:

  • Headshot
  • Half body shot
  • Full body shot
  • Side profile portrait
  • Side profile full body shot

These five images provide agencies with everything they need to evaluate a model’s potential.

Why Is Quality Important For Model Polaroids Belgium?

Although polaroids are simple, quality matters.

Good natural light, professional guidance, and the right camera angles make a huge difference in presenting you at your best while still keeping the images honest and natural.

Agencies are not looking for perfection.

They are looking for potential.

What Happens After Polaroids?

Once you have your polaroids, the next step is usually a professional modeling portfolio.

A portfolio shows clients and agencies how versatile you are by presenting different looks, styling directions, emotions, lighting situations, and creative concepts.

Unlike polaroids, portfolio images can include:

  • Professional makeup
  • Styling
  • Creative lighting
  • Fashion posing
  • Different moods and concepts

Why Not Book A Portfolio Immediately?

Some models prefer to invest directly in a portfolio shoot, and that is absolutely possible.

Portfolio sessions can include your polaroids as part of the experience.

However, if you are still exploring modeling or simply want to test agency interest first, Polaroid Days are often the perfect starting point.

They offer a lower investment while still providing professional images that can be sent to agencies.

When Should You Update Your Model Polaroids Belgium?

Polaroids are not only for new models.

Even signed models are advised to update their digitals regularly.

Most agencies recommend new polaroids:

  • Every six months
  • After changing your hairstyle
  • After changing your hair colour
  • After significant weight changes
  • After major appearance changes

Some agencies organise these updates themselves, while others ask models to arrange them independently.

How Do Model Polaroids Belgium Sessions Work?

Several times a year I organise dedicated Polaroid Days at my Antwerp studio.

Before your session you will receive an email with everything you need to bring and prepare.

During the shoot I guide you through the entire process and help you with posing, posture, and presentation.

After your session you receive:

  • Five professional model polaroids
  • Guidance during the shoot
  • Preparation instructions beforehand
  • A list of modeling agencies if you are not yet signed

My goal is simple:

To make the first step into the modeling industry accessible, professional, and less overwhelming for aspiring models.

Because every modeling journey starts somewhere, and for most models, it starts with polaroids.
